Beta-Alanine Works With HIIT
February, 8 2010
Gym rats who really know their stuff have heard about beta-alanine’s potential for boosting plate-lifting endurance. A study published in the NSCA’s Performance Training Journal suggests that it can also help with High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). Scientists gave half a group of 36 subjects 1.5 grams of beta-alanine four times a day for 21 days, followed by a twice daily regimen for the next 21 days. The other guys got a placebo. During this 42 day trail, both groups did 5 or 6 bouts of high-intensity cycling at a 2:1 work/rest ratio. Their routine was 3 times a week.
Both groups posted big-time improvements in aerobic power, time to exhaustion and total work performed for the first three weeks. After 6 weeks, only the beta-alanine supplementing subjects continued to make progress. Since beta-alanine’s a component of ABB’s Speed Shot Intensity, this energy shot has the potential to get you up and keep you going.
